Meatless monday
Meatless Monday is a national public health campaign designed to help Americans prevent four of the leading causes of premature death: heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and cancer. The campaign provides tools and resources to help Americans cut saturated fat once per week.
DEFINING MEATLESS The Meatless Monday campaign is not an antimeat crusade or a "go vegetarian" message. According to the campaign's description, meatless means no beef, pork, poultry or full-fat dairy products. Fish is acceptable.
THE EVIDENCE Meatless Monday is not about becoming a vegetarian one day per week. It is about significantly cutting saturated fat on that particular day by eliminating its major food sources, which will hopefully perpetuate a healthy message for the remainder of the week. According to researchers, an average person who avoids meat and high-fat dairy products one day per week will reduce his or her consumption of saturated fat by 15%.
